About the Book
|
The year is 1952. In the heat of a labor election one of the leading candidates is murdered. The next day a reporter for the local paper is also killed. With pressure mounting, the mayor and the police chief of Steel Town need a fall guy. The man they pick is Max Eisen, a young Jewish immigrant. To Max's surprise, a famous lawyer gets him out of prison and he is free to try to clear his name. Doing that is harder and more dangerous than he could imagine. But Max finds allies. The lawyer keeps him from going back to jail, the lawyer's beautiful daughter takes an interest in him and his cause, and an odd collection underworld characters and Max's labor gang friends stand with him as he digs into the secrets of Steel Town.
