About the Book
|
In the summer of 1991, during the turbulent aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union, a young nurse in the newly independent Republic of Georgia loses her job after ending an affair with a married physician. Unable to find work to support her loved ones amid the political turmoil and struggling economy of her homeland, Claudia signs up with an international matchmaking service that promises to find 'traditional' foreign wives for lonely bachelors overseas.
On the other side of the world a New York cabbie chances upon her photo in the dating service brochure and sets in motion the sequence of events that will culminate in their marriage. Only after settling down in a manicured subdivision in 'Middle America' does the couple finally confront the consequences of their decision.
