About the Book
|
Real ads that ran in papers and magazines all over the country. They were collected by the author over a period of five years.
"I decided to publish them when I got tired of co-workers, friends, family, and others telling me they were so funny that they should be in a book! Some of the ads are humorous; others are poignant. Some weren't meant to be funny but because of missprints in the original ad, they became funny."
Categories include: Celebrities (Sort of), Looking For Love, Food, Police Blotter, and several others. Some examples of ads in the book.
1. Now on audiotape: "The Joy of Reading."
2. 1990 Chevy Citation. Runs great. Looks good. $4. Firm.
3. Weight Watchers meeting. 7 p.m., gymnasium. Please use large, double doors at side entrance.
4. Evening special. Men dine half-price when accompanied by a lady of equal or lesser value.
Read all 377 ads - you'll laugh until your sides hurt!

Lisa Addison of Costa Mesa, (CA) has compiled offbeat newspaper notices into an e-book, "377 Unbelievable Classified & Personal Ads." Two of my favorites involved "digits," in different ways, including this ad: "Ralphs Supermarket, June 10. You left your number in red lipstick on the windshield of my Delorean. But you only left 6 digits. You seemed like a lot of trouble in a misdemeanor type of way. But I'd still like to hear from you.
- Steve Harvey, Los Angeles Times
