This book provides a selection of cases that covers the major divisions of the criminal justice system: Police, Courts, Corrections, and Juvenile Justice. Each case had been edited for readability, and confusing citations and references have been removed.
Part I provides an overview of the importance of the Supreme Court's role in interpreting constitutional safeguards to civil liberties. This section includes Barron v. Baltimore (1833), Gideon v. Wainwright (1963), and Powell v. Alabama (1932).
Part II provides an overview of issues surrounding police procedure. This section includes Terry v. Ohio (1968), Chimel v. California (1969), United States v. Drayton (2002), Caroll v. United States (1925), Maryland v. Wilson (1997), Warden v. Hayden (1967), Miranda v. Arizona (1966), New York v. Quarles (1984), Weeks v. United States (1914), Mapp v. Ohio (1961), United States v.
