About the Book
Tessa Stevens is stunned when her husband, an ob/gyn, asks for a divorce. She put him through medical school, after all, and now, when the time is right to finally buy their first home and start a family, he wants out.

But when Tessa unexpectedly inherits a Victorian home in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, it seems the perfect place to disappear while recovering from her recent divorce. She heads north to clear her head and to try and make sense of the new life she’s been thrust into… one without the man she loves.

Then Tessa meets Henry, her elderly neighbor, and the season takes some unexpected turns. The two form a special friendship over Scrabble games and iced tea on Henry’s deck, overlooking Lake Michigan. Henry begins telling Tessa his life story and she learns of the people and events that changed his life. His stories are moving and the people he speaks of become real to Tessa as he talks of his World War II hardships, deep family secrets and the power of true love.

Both Henry and Tessa are now faced with new challenges in their lives and each is there for the other in their struggles. What Tessa doesn’t realize is how Henry and the story of his life will, ultimately, change her own.
