About the Book
|
Sallie M. Motch arrived in Hebron, Palestine in January 2002 as a psychologist working for Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières or MSF), and later joined the Palestinian NGO, Ard al-Atfal/Terre Des Hommes, a children’s rights federation. Palestine: A Look Inside is an account of her time spent working with individuals and families suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome, through her letters home, personal commentary, and a report on a yearlong writing project she implemented with a group of ninth-grade girls using a social justice framework to bring about healing through the act of witnessing. Motch describes this project of therapeutic witnessing as “a mindful act of building bridges,” and it is her hope that Palestine: A Look Inside will shift your thinking about the Middle East to a place of hope and healing.
