About the Book
Happy Trails is a book of discovery. It is a joyful exploration of life and the character values and life lessons which contribute to a daily celebration of good decision making. Life isn’t a matter of luck or riches but rather a daily opportunity to consider and then choose wisely. In those wise choices is found the peace of mind and satisfaction which we all so desire.

Happy Trails was written to give its readers insight into those character values which are critical to living a joyful, productive life. In addition to various chapters on character values, the author discusses life lessons, concepts which contribute to good decision making and good choices.

The reader is coached, encouraged and reminded of lessons learned in childhood. We learn by observation and example. But in the busy and sometimes frenzied lives we lead, some of the best lessons we've learned are forgotten or temporarily mislaid. Happy Trails is a reminder to us. The chapters on character values are intentionally brief. Each reader has personal experience with the character value discussed and needs only be reminded of the nature and significance of the value. The lessons of life are re-visited but not in the sense of being back in school.

The author has gone to great lengths to ensure that each chapter is self-contained and can be read by itself. The reminder found in each chapter is presented in a low key, casual manner. But the value is clearly explained and considered. In this busy world, many couples have limited free time. The two income family requires that both husband and wife spend what would have normally been their free time in the evening taking care of other tasks. It is not uncommon for the evening to slow down no more than half an hour before bedtime. In a sense, each chapter is a bedtime story, short enough to be read and shared just before lights out. Positive and upbeat, they provide an opportunity to end the evening on a positive note.

As the reader reaches the midway point in the book, it becomes clear that there is really nothing new to be uncovered in the chapters. However, the reader begins to see that the reminders and emphasis of the author give renewed importance to fundamentals that had long gone unconsidered. The author has a deep appreciation for the reader’s intelligence and character. The book resembles a dialogue rather than a discourse. The reader is not being taught but, rather, reminded. The dialogue is relaxed and intimate, a discussion among friends. The style is intended to encourage thought upon the part of the reader. At various points, the reader is asked to consider and develop his/her own perspective rather than rely on the author’s point of view.

At the end of the book, we are refreshed and prepared to tackle life with renewed confidence. Our time with the author and his friendly manner makes it difficult to say good bye and Happy Trails.
