About the Book
Gertrude was concerned about something she overheard her mom talking about with the ladies at the salon. Little Gertrude doesn’t always understand what the adults are saying, but she knows for certain doesn’t want to get this thing called “Bang’s Disease.” Find out what Gertrude and her friends to do to protect themselves, in this darling book about a little girl who lets fear take over.

Lisa Baker’s second children’s book, Gertrude the Cow Gets in Trouble Somehow, is a heartwarming tale that takes the reader through a series of unfortunate events befalling Gertrude.

We first see that Gertrude loves to play with friends, and “one of their favorite things to do as they gather, is to play hairstylist and pretend to wash their hair and lather.” She soon learns that cows can get a disease that effects their bangs—and of course this sends Gertrude into a tizzy throughout much of the book trying to stay ahead of the effects of this ailment.

Illustrator Corinne Grant does a fabulous job of painting heartfelt images that show Gertrude and her friends working through their troubles and eventually overcoming them. There is a good lesson here for kids, especially in this digital age—talk to your parents or trusted adults about issues of concern first before making rash decisions.

Gertrude the Cow Gets In Trouble Somehow…a great reminder that sometimes it’s necessary to follow your instincts and break from the herd.
