The love story of a slave woman and a planter, whose son was declared white by a colonial Carolina court.

Many are not aware that American indigenous people lived in the Northeast of what is called America today. This story is about early 1600 and 1700 when French Jesuit priest Sebastien Rale meets the Wabanaki in Maine.

The River People grant protection to six travelers who are expected to be part of village life. The men hunt and walk the war path. The women make wampum and deal with anger directed at all Whites. They all change in ways no one expected.
