About the Book
While flying south for the winter, Lonnie the Loon and his friends encounter strong winds that blow them off course. Instead of landing on coastal waters, they end up on a lake in the middle of the desert. Lonnie is uncertain about his home for the winter and hears strange and dangerous sounds in this dry and unfamiliar land. He forms a friendship with an unlikely character, a Quail named Quincy. Quincy teaches him about other animals in the Southwest desert, including a coyote that makes them both run for cover.

With a free QR Code Reader App on a smartphone or other electronic device, children and adults are able to hear and identify the call of the Gambel’s Quail, the song of a Cactus Wren, the howl of a coyote, and the rattle of a rattlesnake. The readers will also learn interesting facts about the Common Loon and animals that live in the Southwest.

Appropriate for ages 3-6, beginner readers, and adults who love to read for the children in their lives.
