About the Book
|
Being Special: A Mother and Son’s Journey with Speech Disorders and Learning Disabilities is an uplifting memoir of a family’s very personal experience with a special-needs child. This book details the authors’ emotional journey with learning disabilities and apraxia, a speech disorder, from the toddler years until early adulthood.
Barbara Curry and David Curry, the mother-and-son authors, are authentic in their approach to sharing the array of emotions they felt during their experiences, including sadness, fear, guilt and anger.
The authors wrote this book to help the parents of special-needs children. This experience can be quite painful, yet simultaneously filled with blessings. Barbara and David openly share their struggles with accepting the disabilities, the painful challenges and obstacles they overcame, and their journey to embracing the situation.
This inspirational story will provide comfort, hope and reassurance to parents of special-needs children. You are not alone in your journey.
Advance praise for Being Special: A Mother and Son’s Journey with Speech Disorders and Learning Disabilities
“Dr. Curry’s unique perspective as an educator and mother of a child with special needs makes this book a must-read for teachers and parents! This mother-and-son story will be helpful to all parents and students navigating their own special journeys.”
—Jessica Davies, Director of Special Education for a Midwestern School District
“Being Special is a journey of special people. Although some may describe the book as a story of disabilities, I was inspired by the authors’ abilities. Barbara and David tell a story of perseverance…knowing when to hold on and when to let go. You’ll be inspired to see how life has a way of working out when you have faith.”
—Mike Monahan, author of Your Future Is Stuck in Your Past, Occupy Your Future and the #1 Bestseller From the Jungle to the Boardroom
