About the Book
When Jim Collins’ basketball dreams start coming true his path takes some unexpected turns. Conformity morphs to rebellion as 1959 turns 1960 and Collins learns that growing up Irish in Philadelphia did not prepare him for life on-the-run in Miami's Coral Gables.

James Joyce, Bill Evans, Henri Matisse and Violette DeMazia(curator of the Barnes Institute) become his new teachers as he tries to journey from racism, domestic abuse and adolescence to enlightenment.

Along the way Marita Maceo, an Afro-Cubana girl ‘from over the mountain, across the sea,” becomes his beacon and a recurring lyric in the songs he sings.

The question posed by the story - will Jim’s luck run out before his life as an artist begins?
