About the Book
|
Dr.Gordon Meiklejohn was a world renowned physician who served as the Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado for twenty-five years. He also specialized in virology and is best known for being a catalyst in researching, diagnosing, and inoculating for flu virus. For those who receive flu shots, he is one of the physicians we thank today. His research further included the studies of Encephalitis, Pneumonia, Q Fever, Mumps and Rocky Mountain Tick Fever. He was instrumental in the eradication of Smallpox.
A descendant of a long line of Scots, he was the son of Alexander Meiklejohn (Dean of Brown, and President of Amherst,a liberal education pioneer). Gordie grew up with a lifelong love of learning; he excelled in academics and sports, especially tennis and ice hockey, and was twice invited to participate on the U.S. Olympic Hockey Teams.
This is the story of his lineage, the love story with his wife Greta, and the legacy he leaves behind to his family, colleagues, students and friends. His parenting methods were unusual and liberal. Most of all, he is known for his stellar medical skills and contributions, his humanity, and his modest, witty personality.
