Navigating the Road to EXCEL-lence is a concise, “must-read” guidebook for finance and accounting professionals who don’t have the time or patience to parse through a 1,000+ page Excel textbook in order to figure out the most important Excel features, functions, tips and techniques they should know. It’s written for intermediate Excel users who want to increase their Excel skills in a short period of time. The author is not only an Excel expert with 10+ years of Excel consulting experience, he has also “been there – done that” in the world of corporate financial management for over 25 years, having held senior financial roles at Xerox Computer Services and The Cerplex Group until starting his practice in 2000. He earned his MBA in Finance from Wharton and has used Excel extensively in real world situations for over 20 years. And his teaching experience at UCLA Extension and CalCPA Education Foundation is a definite plus when it comes to being able to explain things in simple English, not technical “gobbledygook”. The book uses a “Top 10” approach in describing the “Must Know” 10 Functions, 10 Features and 10 favorite Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts. It also has a chapter describing key architecture techniques for designing and building better models. This topic is seldom discussed in other Excel books, but is an area that can make or break an Excel project. And finally, the book describes how Excel VBA works, using some very simple examples and constructs that can be put to use immediately by the reader. Navigating the Road to EXCEL-lence packs a lot of information into a small package. If you are an accounting or finance professional, this is one book that belongs on your bookshelf.
