This book chronicles my personal experiences as a blind child growing up in a traditional society, among people who believed that blindness was a curse, and that a blind person was half dead. Despite this, I became successful, highly respected, and a fully contributing member of both my community and the entire nation of Sierra Leone.
Through gaining high education, up to university level, something which even my own father thought was absolutely impossible, I became the first blind university graduate from the University of Sierra Leone, and the country's first blind senior civil servant.
I am a son, a brother, a father and a grandfather. Through all the changing paths of life I choose to take the road less traveled. Through this journey of self-discovery, I have learned that success is not a destination but an ongoing journey. Life might not always deal you the hand you desire but what you make of it is entirely your choice, and I have chosen to find light in the midst of darkness.
