About the Book
NLD From the Inside Out: Talking to Parents, Teachers, and Teens about Growing Up with Nonverbal Learning Disabilities – Second Edition

Does this sound familiar?

“Oh, no! Another essay question – I don’t even know where to start!”
“I don’t seem to understand how to make and keep friends.”
“I know I’m smart… but not everyone gets that because I think differently.”

If you’ve heard any of these concerns – or if you have them – you may well dealing with Nonverbal Learning Disabilities (NLD). NLD is a commonly misdiagnosed neuropsychological disorder thought to affect 1% of the population. And these are some of the commonly-heard and painful laments of teens with NLD.

Many books and websites describe NLD in children of elementary and middle school age. But what happens to the NLD child once he or she is in high school, college, or beyond? Teens with NLD see the world differently. Others don’t “get” them. They face adolescence fraught with ostracism, anger, and pain.

But it doesn’t have to be that way!

Written by and for young adults with NLD, as well as for their parents, teachers, therapists, and others who care about them, and backed by the latest neuropsychological research, NLD FROM THE INSIDE OUT offers dozens of useful tips on:

• Creating more harmonious family and peer relationships
• Organization and planning, including study skills and writing papers
• Changing disabling attitudes

Plus, how to successfully navigate the transition from dependent child to independent adult.

This SECOND EDITION also addresses readers’ most commonly-asked questions, including:

• What is the difference between NLD and Asperger’s Syndrome?
• What are the neurological root causes of NLD?
• Which symptoms of NLD change over time?

NLD FROM THE INSIDE OUT will help you and your teen avoid the anger and pitfalls associated with NLD. More than that, it offers real stories from now-thriving young adults who grew up with NLD – proof that a full and rewarding life lies ahead for those now struggling.
