Based on the most current neurobiological research and on first-hand accounts of young adults, NLD FROM THE INSIDE OUT offers readers a comprehensive guide to living with Nonverbal Learning Disabilities (NLD). Written by a young adult with NLD, it is the first book by and for those growing up with NLD.

NLD is an often-misdiagnosed and misunderstood neuropsychological disorder which affects about 1% of the population. Understanding how to live with and respond to NLD is critical for those who have it, and those who interact with them. NLD affects the way individuals process information. They struggle to understand a world that makes no sense to a hyper-logical mind.

NLD FROM THE INSIDE OUT offers specific encouragement for teens and young adults, ages 11-24 with NLD, and their parents, teachers, school administrators, therapists and other health care providers. These groups understand the challenges. Each is desperate for information and tools to help them cope with those challenges: those with NLD themselves, and their parents and mentors, who want to ensure that these children and their siblings, classmates, and peers are able to live, learn and work together in a healthy and constructive environment.

NLD FROM THE INSIDE OUT:
• Debunks the common myths about NLD.
• Presents the most current neurobiological research about NLD.
• Offers successful, proven strategies for those living with NLD.
• Increases public knowledge and awareness of NLD.
• Provides comfort and hope for those affected by NLD.

Drawing upon the author’s own experiences navigating the public school system – as well as six different colleges – and interviews with dozens of young adults with NLD, NLD FROM THE INSIDE OUT offers both a unique vantage point from which to understand this disorder, and a plan for living with NLD.

By giving a forum for young adults with NLD to talk about their frustrations, challenges, and accomplishments, and sharing these with readers, NLD FROM THE INSIDE OUT offers role models and hope for teens with NLD and their parents. By turns funny and poignant, as well as informative and reassuring, NLD FROM THE INSIDE OUT will help readers to break through the barriers that may limit these bright, talented teens from reaching their full potential.
