About the Book
Lent: are you serious about it? Sort of? Want to be? Let the Sacristy Rat show you how.

Most people think of Lent in terms of “giving up something for” but in truth, Lent can be a far more profound experience. Traditionally, Lent is a time of reflection and penance as Christians prepare for Holy Week, culminating in the Crucifixion and Resurrection – Easter.

This book takes a look at various Lenten practices, concentrating on pulling out lessons about Lent from the readings appointed for the Sundays in Lent. The readings are those prescribed in the Revised Common Lectionary. The book includes the text of all readings in the King James version.

The Sacristy Rat will list some traditional Lenten practices as well as some more modern versions of them. The Sacristy Rat will also answer all your questions about Lent in the Not-So-FAQ. (Well, not all. Some questions are better left unasked, much less answered. But you already knew that. However, such arcanity as ecclesiastical full moons and algebra are clearly with the Sacristy Rat’s purview.)

Readers will also be invited to join a special members-only message board to share their Lent with an ad hoc and on-the-run community. Special details are on the last page of the book.
