Twenty thousand years after the Great Destruction, life on planet Earth is making a comeback. New species have rapidly evolved. The old species that survived did so only by becoming more intelligent and cunning—and none more so than the wolf, whose intelligence now rivals that of its ultimate competitor, the human. Yet, contact between these two species is only beginning. Each has much to learn about the other. Each had better be well prepared for what is to come. Especially so, the young, who must develop into the able leaders of this new time.
Aesa, a perceptive young wolf making her crossing into adulthood, will be the first of her pack to learn about the humans now entering their territory. Enemies unknown to her will try to prevent such knowledge from ever reaching the pack. From others, Aesa will get help, as she finds herself enveloped in a struggle of unimagined scope and consequence.
