The monks featured in Conversations in the Abbey live at Saint Meinrad Archabbey, a Benedictine monastery in southern Indiana that has pursued a life of prayer, work and community since 1854.
Today, the community of monks operate a graduate school of theology and an extensive retreat program, in addition to offering assistance to area parishes. Other works of Saint Meinrad include Abbey Press and Abbey Caskets.
Author Ruth Engs interviews 11 elder monks and learns about their daily lives, their work and prayer, and the ways they've learned to live their vows of stability, obedience and ongoing conversion.
These monks have lived through turbulent times in the Roman Catholic Church and they continue to have faith in their way of life and their own vocation.
