About the Book
When You Wish Upon A Star, is the autobiography of an 84-year-old woman who now lives in a retirement home in San Diego.

Growing up in a very small railroad town during the great depression, she and her sister dreamed impossible dreams. Wishing on the first star, on white horses, on birthday candles and turkey wishbones were faithfully followed rituals.

Lying on their twin beds after the high school dances, very late at night, they listened to a Chicago radio station that announced they were broadcasting “from the beautiful Aragon Ballroom on the shores of Lake Michigan.” A popular song that year was Far Away Places With Strange Sounding Names and they dreamed of seeing them all.

The dreams of marriage, family, travel, education and a successful career seemed to be unrealistic with the threat of war in Europe and the grim economic times. Never did they believe that all their dreams would come true but they did.

This is a story of dreams fulfilled and a life well spent.
