All Russell wanted to do is be able to hit a baseball before he got injured. The more he tried, the worse he became. Almost at the end of the line, he prayers are answered when Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Ted Williams are sent by the Big Guy (God) to help him out. Nancy Crane also needs help to become the sports writer that she knows she can be. The Big Publisher send her Grantland Rice to help her along. Together the discover that they can reach their dreams; stand up on their own two feet and end up loving each other in the process; and love the spirits that help them in their work and life.
