About the Book
Ever wonder how your pet sees the world? Norman is the true story of an exceptional dog and his 17 year life as an important member of a human family, told in his own voice from his adoption to his final trip to the vet. Many of his adventures and misadventures are captured in photographs that are as amusing as he was charming. Through his eyes, you will meet his adoptive parents, see his human siblings grow to adults, laugh at his pranks, cry at his tragedies, admire his courage and come to love him as his family did.

With wit, affection and insight, Norman relates his encounters with friend and foe, his discovery of his two great passions, his disappointment at being neutered, his annoyance at the tricks played on him, his fierce defense of his turf, and finally, growing old with his adoptive parents. Norman’s stories cover a lot of territory as they follow his master’s career moves from Illinois to Massachusetts to New Hampshire and finally, to Pennsylvania with marathon vacation drives to Nevada, Canada and Florida. These trips set the stage for many of Norman’s and the family’s travails.

Much more than just a pet story, Norman is an endearing family memoir that will move and entertain you as it clearly did its ghost author. George McGee has convincingly captured the character and voice of his beloved canine companion (with an honesty that is not always flattering to himself or Norman) such that the reader quickly forgets the human mind that is really telling the story. While certainly an appealing book for children, it is not written down to a child’s level. It is a great story for pet lovers of any age.
