About the Book

What happens when a young girl suddenly loses her mother - is it possible to be happy again, or is her life destined for disappointment forever?

Gypsy Wind is about a courageous girl named Lea Johnson whose life consisted of living on her parent's pecan farm in southern New Mexico. After Lea's mother dies suddenly, Lea's world changes. At first, Lea's only mother figure is her best friend Ramy Pierson's mother.

From accepting her father's eventual dating to supporting Ramy during difficult times, Lea does not let the possibility of loss stop her from living, or loving. She learns to overcome adversity in life by accepting new possibilities into her world, and makes the choice to be happy. Eventually, Lea learns to open her heart not only to give love, but to receive it.

Lea's adventures lead her to Arizona's Lake Patagonia, and back to her beloved southern New Mexico farm where she reluctantly befriends a school teacher with an artificial leg. Will this good-hearted lady become Lea's step-mother some day?

Real life events, from Mrs. Pierson's battle with cancer to "fixing" a wedding cake a dog partially destroys, shows Lea's courage and good-heartedness. Even in times of desperation, Lea chooses to spread light to others through her determination and strength.

A novel written for children as well as adults, Lea shows the reader how to be content with life, despite its challenges, making Gypsy Wind synonymous with survival and triumph.
